Why you should choose a blue Sapphires?

A blue Sapphires is said to be the most valuable and precious blue gemstones today. With its outstanding colour, cutting, and durability, it brings out beauty and elegance. One of the main characteristic of blue Sapphires is pleochroic, or better known as dichroic gemstone. A dichroic gemstones means that the colour of the gemstones and varies depending on which angle you see from. It might be blue seeing from one angle, and might be purple seeing from another. This is what makes a Sapphires gemstones unique and one-of-a-kind.

How to choose a blue Sapphires ring?

Last aspect for evaluation would be carat, the weight of the blue Sapphires. As many of you already know, the heavier the gemstones is, the more rare and expensive it would be. For blue Sapphires, a stone over 5cts is rare, and one with over 15cts is very rare.

 

Choosing a blue sapphires ring

Like most gemstones and rare stone, we can evaluate and verify them through the “4 Cs”, which is colour, clarity, cut and carat.

In colour, you should look at the hue and saturation of the blue Sapphires. Hue means the colour of gemstones that you see. Due to the pleochroic characteristic of gemstones, colour may changes depending on the angle you see it from.  Saturation means the amount of colour present in the gemstones and a high saturation blue Sapphires will have an intense and pure shades. But too much saturation will caused the gemstones to be too dark and looks deem. Essentially, you should pick a blue Sapphires ring which suit your personal preference and taste.

In clarity, inclusions are the determining factor. Inclusions are flaws which can be a scratch, fingerprint, etc. Ideally, you should choose a Sapphires with no inclusions visible to naked eyes. The less visible the inclusions, the more valuable the Sapphires are. However, it is highly advisable to not selecting a blue Sapphires which has zero inclusions, both visible and invisible to naked eyes, as a perfect blue Sapphires are very rare and it is most likely synthetic. Best clarity grade is Perfection, followed by VVS (very very slightly included) and VS (very included)

Cut is another factor which greatly influence the outlook of a gemstones. Window and symmetry are the main factors to evaluate blue Sapphires with good cut.

A window is when the center of gemstones is not reflecting any light, it is happen when the gemstones are cut too shallow. Symmetry is important to provide a good overall feel of the gemstones. Rule of thumb is, a round Sapphire should be round, and not lop-sided, same applied to an oval Sapphire.
